概要(Abstract) カースト制度のもとでは身分の低い人々に対する社会的差別が依然として存在している。カースト制度による空間的不平等が見られる。例えば、同じ村の中でも低いカースト身分に属する人々は不便な所に住み、身分の高い人々は便利な場所に住んでいる。社会改革主義者の影響で、南インドのタミルナードゥ州では州全体で1997 年から政府によるサマトゥアプラム(「平等村」)という名の住宅制度が導入された。この無料の住宅制度の理念は異なるカースト身分の人々が同じ空間を共有しながら共に暮らすことである。この研究では、この平等村に住んでいる人々が異なるカースト身分の人々と差別をすることなく、調和のある暮らしを送っているか等、この平等村の目的が達成されているか、その影響と効果について分析を行った。 |

To overcome this social unrest and establish social harmony, contemporary Indian thinkers have proposed the concept of Universal Religion comprising religious values acceptable to people from different religious backgrounds. This paper will compare and contrast the Concept of Universal Religion of contemporary Indian thinkers and investigate how they promote religious harmony in Indian society. |

概要(Abstract)
In caste-based Indian society, occupation is hereditarily determined and passed on to the younger generations of the respective castes though by law there is freedom to choose one’s occupation. The lower castes are considered to be impure and perform jobs which are unclean and menial. This paper analyzes the hereditary occupation of the Arunthathiyar community, who are considered to be the lowest caste in the society, living in Janglapuram Village, Tirupattur District, Tamil Nadu. They are traditionally engaged in manufacturing of winnowers made of bamboo; their identity is tied to this occupation. In recent years, most of the younger generation of this community prefer white-collar jobs over the hereditary occupation for social and economic reasons. The social reason is the low status accompanying the hereditary occupation both among the Arunthathiyar community and the people from other caste communities; on the other hand, white-collar professions are appreciated and acclaimed. Besides, there is more caste-based discrimination in the rural villages than in the bigger cities. The economic reason is that there are a lot of opportunities of well-paid white-collar jobs in the bigger cities. However, there is a dichotomy of thinking between two types of people among the members of Arunthathiyar community, whether to keep up the identity of the Arunthathiyar community by continuing the hereditary occupation or to take up the white-collar jobs with the view of increasing social recognition. |

概要(Abstract)
The study examines the significance of financial inclusion in terms of awareness of and accessibility to basic financial services and products for economic empowerment and social development of ‘Katkari’ tribe in Raigad District, Maharashtra. The findings reveal that the Katkari tribal people have a very low level of financial awareness of and accessibility to quality, affordable, and basic financial services and products such as savings, credit, insurance, transfer and remittance of funds. The Katkari depend largely on an informal, exploitative credit system (moneylenders) as immediate source of funds rather than approaching banks and financial advice centers for guidance and credit accessibility. Financial inclusion schemes of Indian Government and the Reserve Bank of India, have not been realized in the tribal villages in terms of ensuring financial literacy, quality changes in their standard of living, building up sustainable and diversified livelihood projects, and improving their educational and health facilities. Hence, financial inclusion as an inclusive growth strategy has not made any significant impact towards the economic empowerment and social development of the Katkari. |

概要(Abstract)
Aspects of the Hindu religion can inspire human society to preserve, protect, and nurture the earth’s environment to restore imbalance and decrease the alarming number of natural disasters. This paper presents the teachings of Hindu religion which have celebrated and consecrated the inter-relatedness of the human world to the non-human world, reminding us of our delicate and inescapable partnership with air, land, water, and fellow living beings in the Universe. This paper also enumerates various sacred rituals and rites in Hinduism which have shown the close intimacy and inescapable relationship that nature, human beings, and Gods share. Hinduism can help spiritualize the ecology movement and reconnect it with our ancient sense of sacred Mother Earth. On the other hand, this paper also describes the various irresponsible acts occurring in the Hindu festivals and rituals which lead to pollution and ecological crises. |

概要(Abstract)
Labour mobility is one of the key features of economic development and its characteristics are closely tied with the nature of this development. The present study indicates that the migration of the Oraon tribe of Chhota Nagpur, India, has economically gained more from labour migration. This labour migration brought out significant changes in the socio-economic status of the labour migrants in terms of higher income and savings. Most of the labour migrant households enjoyed a higher economic status in the village which was mainly due to remittances that they earned in the destinations of migration. Remittances were mostly used by members of the households for consumption and to support education of the children. Overall, labour migration in the lives of the Oraon tribe of Chhota Nagpur in Pune has made a major contribution towards the economic emancipation of the migrants, the labour migrants’ households and the rural areas. From the field study, it is observed that until and unless there is an improvement in the rural poor’s economic status and resources and agriculture becomes profitable and viable, there can be no stopping of labour migration to other regions in search of employment. |
